An espectacular getaway to Colonia

If you are planning to stay for the night, there are great places! Posada Le Moment in Colonia del Sacramento gives tourists the opportunity to be in a quiet and lovely environment on the banks of the river. Only 20 kilometers away from Colonia del Sacramento is the C’ars Manuquita Museum. It was opened on september 2017. It has all kind of antiques. The exposition give the public the possibility to go back in time, as you can walk through old shops such as a pharmacy and a barbershop.

On of the charms of visiting Colonia is to get to know historical places. For those who love having a good wine, Narbona has a restaurant where you can have lunch, visit the winery and you can also stay there in one of their five rooms. El legado is a boutique winery where you can enjoy a glass of wine in the middle of a beautiful landscape. You can also have lunch surrounded by olive-trees, with previous reservation, in La Primavera.

Near Carmelo la Calera de las huérfanas is a touristic spot. A place with Jesuit missions ruins, a historical monument in Uruguay. Between Carmelo and Nueva Palmira, there is another interesting spot: El rincón de Darwin, the scientist was there on its visit to Uruguay. There is a zigzagging staircase with 120 steps, in his honor. It symbolizes the change of scientific paradigm because of evolution.  A monolith in this place also indicates that there is the zero kilometer of the Río de la Plata.

A tour to Martín García island is a good idea to have a real scape from the city. There you can find an abandoned jail, the lighthouse and the cemetery of the crooked crosses. A delicious asado would make the perfect lunch. The island’s bakery is really famous, also one of its attractions. There are no cars in the island and that’s one of the reasons why it is so quiet.

After all the visits it is necessary to get some energy! In Restaurant del Ferrocarril you can taste great flavors in an authentic train car completely restored. Deli de las Rosas, in the middle of the historic neighborhood, it’s a lovely place to have some coffee and a piece of homemade cake. If you want to enjoy the sunset, you can go to La Beduina to drink beer and enjoy of the beautiful landscape.
